In Colosseum: The Grand Spectacle, each player takes on the role of a Roman impresario who stages dazzling spectacles in their arena to attract the largest crowds and earn lasting fame. By improving your facilities, recruiting talented artists, and impressing powerful nobles, including the Emperor himself, you compete to earn the title of Grand Impresario, with your name resonating throughout the empire.
Set in 80 A.D. during the 99 days of the Colosseum's inaugural games, the game unfolds as gladiators clash, exotic beasts roam, and musicians from every corner of the empire perform for a roaring crowd. As Emperor Titus settles in for the final day, all eyes turn to you: this is your moment to shine.
Colosseum: The Grand Spectacle is a new deluxe edition of the classic Colosseum. It features new artwork, simplified rules, enhanced components, and new solo and two-player modes. Long-time fans can also play with the original rules, and the game includes a new module, The Lion, which adds a lion miniature and new game dynamics.
This edition introduces several important changes: the game now takes place over four rounds instead of five, with a rebalanced economy and faster pacing. Players share a central Colosseum, contributing their own gates to the structure instead of using individual arenas. New event tiles have been added, the featured artists are now screen-printed meeples with six new characters, and the introduction of the Mercury token refines auction and trading interactions. Players also build 'Temples of Fortune' around the board and manage updated player boards to score points and organize resources.
Every element has been carefully reworked to breathe new life into a modern classic, preserving the spirit of the original.
