Building with the pieces it's fun and the resulting castles are unstable enough to be teared down with the catapults. The catapults work perfectly and feel sturdy.

Crossbows & Catapults: Fortress War is a restoration of Crossbows and Catapults, the 1983 classic game of kinetic warfare. Each player builds their castle, then players take turns using their weapons to fire discs at their opponent's castle, trying to knock over their warrior figures.
This new version features highly engineered weapons, more detailed building bricks, and deeper game play. The new weapons no longer use rubber bands, replaced by spring-powered and pinch-to-fire technology that ensure reliable velocity and reward player skill. On the building side, castles are constructed using a variety of detailed components to allow for larger, more intricate, and more varied structures.
Fortress War also features detailed mercenary miniatures. A deck of asymmetrical tactics cards let you take special actions and recruit mercenaries to the battlefield, where they'll use their unique abilities to turn the tide in your favor.

I found this for retail and I'm excited! I loved and grew up with the battleground 2006 version and am happy to now own this one.
It’s been a blast. I’m very impressed by the quality of this restoration. Everything has been carefully though-out. I have played once with a friend. The other plays are with my 2 years old. For him, the game is named BOOM and consists in knocking one castle down with papa’s help. Great time.
This was an awesome version and I was surprised at how well it worked. The castle felt perfectly able to resist the attacks while steadily breaking down. The challenge in hitting the warriors felt just right. The special ability characters seemed properly set up to be fairly balanced and dynamic. I played the original version a lot as a kid and my memory is it was fun, but everything always fell down and rubber bands broke, etc. This version is amazing.
I loved playing this game as a kid growing up. Recently saw this at Origins and brought back all the memories. I play a modified version with my 5 and 3 year old...Dad builds a fort, and they try to destroy it. They love playing, and I am so happy I get to share some of my childhood memories with them.
