Do we really have free will? Who decides this? Are we controlled by what we hear and what we see, even while thinking we decide freely? Insider is a game that deals with these questions. While communicating to others, you have to find the right answers to a quiz or find the "insider" who is manipulating the discussion. The insider will do everything to hide their identity while misleading the others.

In more detail, players are assigned roles at random. One player is the "master", and they secretly select a word from a set given in a deck of cards. (In a variant given in the rulebook, they can freely select and write down a word.) The "insider" player, whose role is not known to the other players, will then secretly view the word. The rest of the players are known as "commons". The commons then have approximately five minutes in which to ask the master "yes" or "no"-type questions so that they can deduce the secret word. The insider attempts to secretly lead the commons towards the correct word. If the commons fail to guess the correct word, everyone loses.

If, however, the word is correctly guessed in the allowable time, the master flips the sand timer, and the commons and master have until the sand runs out to discuss the game and deduce the identity of the insider. If they guess correctly, they win the game together; if they do not, the insider wins.

"20 questions crossed with Mafia" - this is very engaging and fast-playing. A few home rules to improve play: - Simplify voting to just having everyone point fingers - If a commoner is voted out, they win alongside the insider - Adjust question time according to who wins each round. An appropriate range is 2:30 to 5 minutes. Start at 4 minutes, raise the time by 15 seconds when insider loses, lower by 15 seconds when insider wins.

I liked it better than Werewords, first of all because the team dynamics actually make sense here. But second is.... it just takes itself less seriously? It's okay to play yes/no questions and see what happens! Not be the shadowy mastermind.... oh I see.

Best social deduction game ever created. So simple, so much fun. Played it a million times and it never gets old. Kind of expensive for what you get, but the amount of time this game has given me in playtime makes it so worth every penny. Truly a masterpiece

Learn - Within 10mins. Instructions are straight forward and clear. Setup - Under 3mins to setup the game. Pros 1. Very portable and fast game and easily introduced. 2. A lot of interaction between players and although certain replies throw the entire team off, insights to how differently we understand things is revealed. 3. Do not need a large vocabulary to play compared to Codenames. Remarks The deduction portion of the game at the end adds a lot of fun. The interaction between

Very fun party game. Mixes elements of social deduction and popular pastimes perfectly to be both great fun and a great demonstration of the hobby to non-gamers. The brilliantly compact box size (a *lot* of game in a very small package) make this one a definite keeper fo myself - can see it being a regular opener on game nights.
