As a solo player, I've appreciated the addition of new zone to explore more so than I've really found myself using the various animal companions. They each have nifty little abilities that are incredibly useful, but the fact that they must be reaquired for each challenge (most of the time), makes them a mechanic that I simply choose not to utilize as often. The Tangle alone makes the expansion worthwhile however.
