This adds some depth to the game and not that much complexity. I love how you can rush for a gargantuan and that gives you a completely new way to play with him, or just wait and get it naturally for more points. They also combine quite well with everything else in the game. A really good addition to the game.

This is the kind of expansion that is great when the base game is great and mediocre when the base game is mediocre. This adds some more cards, a few more captains (highly appreciated), and the Gargantuan beasts - which give you another way to unlock your captain’s ability with very little extra rules. This isn’t mandatory for sure, but if you want an expansion, skip the crew set and get this one.
