Description Description
Prussian Rails debuted in 2008 as Preußische Ostbahn, the second game in Winsome's Historic Railroads System, then was reprinted as German Railways. Prussian Rails builds upon the system established in Wabash Cannonball and takes the gameplay to Germany, 1840-1870, introducing an innovative player order mechanism to the system. In addition, each railroad has a special characteristic, based upon its history: Preußische Ostbahn - May build up to 4 track; 20 black track; Königsberg start. Niederschlesische - No City Penalty; 17 brown track; Breslau start. Sächsische - May build up to 2 track; 11 orange track; Leipzig start. Bayerische - Track cost -1 per hex; 16 blue track; München start. Main-Weser - Double one City Income; 14 yellow track; Kassel start. Badische - One free rural track/build; 15 red track; Mannheim start. Köln-Mindener - $5 maximum expediture/build; 12 purple track; Essen start. Berlin-Hamburger - Must connect both to receive Dividends; 13 green track; Wittenberge start.

Shares and railroad expansion like Chicago Express but random turn order based on blind draw - the higher your income, the less chance your cubes are drawn for turn order. So much fun!!

What a unique quirky game. A lot of fun with great strategy and a unique turn order mechanism. One of the best train games I’ve played.

Very, very cool. Superficially similar to Chicago Express, but playing it like CE will result in a decisive loss. I love the company abilities, although in the Queen version they really ought to be printed on the board or on the shares. I also love the turn order mechanism. Yes, it's possible (though improbable) to go the entire game without getting a single turn on the map. Yes, it's probably possible (though improbable) to win in spite of that. Doesn't feel quite as dry as CE which is a bonus for persuading others to play with me.

It rewards and reinforces all the fundamentals of the cube rails genre, but the randomness of the turn order draw helps mitigate skill differences and creates interesting game states for players to navigate. Navigating the probability space is a fun wrinkle that expands and contorts the usual heuristics.

+ Each company operates differently (and it’s historically based) + Super interactive, entirely based on unintuitive shared incentives + The random turn order is the twist that literally drives the game, creating unusual and unique dynamics, provoking and stretching the boundaries of our strategic thinking, pushing ourselves into unknown territories… - …or just scares people off (many people are not willing to explore its delicate game system, that demands a full understanding from the whole table; otherwise, the game would end with people crying and running away or other railway disasters)
